Friends Cash Calendar

The Friends of the Valleyview Library have begun a new fundraiser for the Library. It is a Cash Calendar for the month of December 2011. You purchase a calendar and get a chance to win cash prizes throughout the month of December. Prizes will be $25 for Sunday through Thursday, $100 on Fridays and Saturdays and Two $500 Prizes for Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. Origami Flowers for Beginners

We had a great turnout for our first Origami Flowers for Beginners brought to you free of charge by June Shelly and the Library. We had a fun group from 12 to adult folding, bending and twisting our papers into a lovely four petal lily. Since it was such a success, June may consider giving further workshops like this.

Passchendaele

The first of a series of films to be shown at the Library was Passchendaele with Paul Gross. The Friends of the Valleyview Library are sponsoring a series of films to be shown the third Friday of each month. We had a good turnout for the first movie in spite of the weather and freezing rain. Passchendaele was an excellent film. It was extremely moving and accurate to the setting of World War I. Friends Feature Films

The Friends of the Valleyview Library will begin showing monthly films on the third Friday of each month beginning, Friday, January 21 at 7 p.m. These films will range in theme/content and will be intended for adults 18 or older. As many of you may know, there are movies shown monthly by the Rec. Department for community children and there are also movies for seniors. Book Club News for January 2010

The Book Club got together for our January meeting, where we discussed our November and December reading selections, Forty Words for Sorrow by Giles Blunt and The Bishop's Man by Linden MacIntyre. We all enjoyed Forty Words for Sorrow, which is the first in Giles Blunt's Detective Cardinal series. Blunt is a Canadian author, who in addition to his suspense/crime novels, has also written episodes for tv series like CSI. Kobo for Christmas Contest Winner

The Library's Win a Kobo for Christmas Contest winner was Mrs. Janis Simpkins. Mrs. Simpkins kindly donated her prize back to the Library and the Kobo was then awarded to Ms. Heather Badger. Ms. Badger was thrilled to take her new Kobo e-book reader home for the holidays! Congratulations, Heather! :)
